Beats filling the old stuff!, 18 June 2008

"I have renovated several properties now and have learnt many things over the years! The first room I ever did I sweated buckets and wasted several days paint stripping, sanding and filling the old skirtings. Now unless the skirting is in very good order and only wants a lick of paint, I rip it off and fit with new, the new skirting matches well with the old and cuts out all the aggro! It probably cost me more in paint stripper and sand paper than the new skirting! However sometimes the older skirting is deeper than the one available, so I simply buy an extra piece of planed timber, plane it down further to the correct size and then nail and glue it to the bottom edge of the skirting."
